PAU Soil Scientist Dr. Om Prakash Choudhary Conferred with Top Honour

Dr. Om Prakash Choudhary, Punjab Agriculture University

Dr. Om Prakash Choudhary, the department's chief soil scientist and a former Head of Department (HOD) at Punjab Agriculture University (PAU), was given the "Prof Baldev Singh Dhillon Distinguished Professor Chair Award." During his time at PAU, the latter was also the University librarian's supplementary responsibility.

He was recently elected as a fellow member of the Indian Society of Soil Salinity and Water Quality and the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS).

Dr. Satbir Singh Gosal, vice-chancellor of the university and a well-known agricultural biotechnologist, presented the honour to Dr. Choudhary.

Notably, Dr. Choudhary has an impressive academic background, has won two gold medals, and is included on the University Roll of Honour. He has participated in significant field research initiatives.

His well-considered study assisted in the prediction of potential risks and the development of site-specific solutions for the prudent and efficient use of salty and sodic waters, leading to substantial gains (25–30%) in crop output and financial benefit for the farmers.

He has previously been chosen for the esteemed National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS) for his contributions to science in the Natural Resource Management sector.

He has also served as the director of the Electron Microscopy and Nanotechnology Laboratory and the Center for Advanced Faculty Training since 2017. (CAFT). He has an outstanding academic record and was awarded two gold medals in addition to being added to the University Roll of Honor.

His contributions to research have included developing site-specific solutions for the prudent and efficient use of salty and alkaline waters as well as precise N management through 26 suggestions for farmers.

He has more than 300 publications to his credit, including 94 research papers in esteemed national and international magazines, nine books (authored by him), and more.

About the award:
Prof. Baldev Singh Dhillon is a renowned agricultural scientist and was the previous vice chancellor of Punjab Agricultural University from 2011 to 2021. To recognise the awardee's service to farming and agriculture, the Professor Chair Award is granted in his honour.
